Cass Is Badass had the opportunity to ask Cassadee some fan questions! Read our Q&A here:
1. How did you adjust from going from front woman of a band to country solo artist?
Cassadee: Going from being in a band to being a solo artist was a pretty massive transition. The process of making an album, putting together a live set, and pretty much everything else is so different. 5 people had to be on the same page creatively to progress. And now, I only rely on myself for that progression. There are things I miss about being in a band, but I have to say I’m the happiest I’ve ever been in my career!
2. What is your most proud moment in 2013?
Cassadee: My proudest moment of 2013 was probably having my album debut at #1 on the country charts. When you put so much of yourself into something, you just want so badly for people to respond strongly. That was the biggest reward I’ve gotten from hard work.
3. Was there ever a time in your career where you wanted to give up? If so what encouraged you to keep going?
Cassadee: I’ve never had a moment where I felt like I would actually give up on music. There was a time before I auditioned for The Voice where I thought I just wasn’t a good enough artist, and maybe I should stick to songwriting only. But there was always that glimmer of hope I never lost sight of.
4. If you could collaborate with any artist who would it be and why?
Cassadee: I would collaborate with Shania Twain. She is such a positive and confident roll model. She exudes self-empowerment and I think we could write a pretty badass song together!
5. What was the biggest adjustment you had to make after winning The Voice?
Cassadee: The biggest adjustment I had to make after winning The Voice was probably getting used to the long hours every day. I’ve never been more busy in my life and it took me a few months to get used to the lack of sleep.
6. What is your favorite song of your own & cover song to perform?
Cassadee: My favorite song of my own is probably “11.” I’m so proud of that one because I was able to put into a song what that experience was like. And the reactions I’ve gotten from people who have gone through their parents’ divorce has made me realize I can help people by just sharing my story. As for covers, I’ve had a blast covering “That Don’t Impress Me Much” by Shania Twain. The crowd really loves it!
7. 11 is one of the most relatable songs on the album, because it means so much to you, did that make it an easy song to write or did you find it difficult to put your feelings into words?
Cassadee: I’ve never been able to write about my parents divorce in a song. And writing “11” was definitely the most difficult song I’ve written in my life. To write about that kind of thing without making anyone out to be the villain takes extreme sensitivity. I wanted to capture how I was feeling at the time but I spared quite a lot of details. Some things just don’t need to be spelled out for the world.
8. Whose the most influential or exciting person she’s met in her musical career so far?
Cassadee: Some of the most influential people I’ve met so far would probably be the guys in Rascal Flatts. Not only did they take me on tour all last year and give me great exposure, but they’ve become some of my favorite people. They’re so kind and generous and there’s no better example of humble & successful people.
9. Would you ever do another tv show or movie if you had the opportunity? If yes would you do reality or scripted?
Cassadee: Someday, doing a movie/ documentary of my own journey would be incredible. But I’d save that for when I am hopefully way bigger!
10. Where do you see yourself in 5 years from now?
Cassadee: In 5 years, and in my best case scenario, I will be touring the world and headlining stadiums. I will have a bunch of #1 singles and some #1 albums under my belt. I’ll have some awards on my shelf at home. I’ll be able to start a charity. You name it! Pretty humble goals I’d say. ;)
